This message concerning Nineveh came as a vision to Nahum, who lived in Elkosh.
The Lord is a jealous God, filled with vengeance and rage. He takes revenge on all who oppose him and continues to rage against his enemies! ( vengeance : 복수, rage : 분노, revenge : 복수)
guilty go unpunished. He displays his power in the whirlwind and the storm. (whirlwind : 회오리바람) The billowing clouds are the dust beneath his feet. (billow : 바람에 부풀어 오르다)
At his commend the oceans dry up, and the rivers disappear. The lush pastures of Bashan and Carmel fade, and the green forests of Lebanon wither. (lush : 무성한, 우거진. Bashan : 갈릴리 호수 동쪽 지역, Carmel : 이스라엘 북서부 작은 산지 이름, wither : 시들다, 마르다)
In his presence the mountains quake, and the hills melt away; the earth trembles, and its people are destroyed. (quake : 떨다, 전율하다.)
Who can stand before his fierce anger? Who can survive his burning fury? His rage blazes forth like fire, and the mountains crumble to dust (crumble : 부서지다)
Why are you scheming against the Lord? (scheme : 몰래 계획을 꾸미다) He will destroy you with one blow ; he won't need to strike twice!
His enemies, tangled like thornbushes and staggering like drunks, will be burned up like dry stubble in a field (tagle : 얽히다, thornbushes : 가시관목, stagger : 비틀거리다, stubble : 그루터기)
Who is this wicked counselor of yours who plots evil against the Lord? This is what the Lord says. "Though the Assyrians have many allies, they will be destroyed and disappear." (ally : 동맹국)
