Then the LORD said to Moses,
"Tell the Israelites to turn back and encamp near Pi Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea. They are to encamp by the sea, directly opposite Baal Zephon. And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will pursue them. But I will gain glory for myself through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD."
하나님께서는 이스라엘을 일부러 바다 앞의 백사장으로 인도하셨다. 그곳은 바다였다. 그리고 모세에게만 말씀하신다. 그곳에서 모두가 하나님의 영광을 볼 것이다.
As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the LORD.
파라오와 그의 군대는 이스라엘 노예들을 죽이고, 붙잡으러 간다. 이스라엘 사람들은 파라오를 보고 온몸이 얼어붙고, 극심한 공포에 사로잡힌다. 파라오는 우리들을 수백년간 다스려온 신의 화신이였다.
They said to Moses, "Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness? Why did you make us leave Egypt? We said, 'Leave us alone! Let us be slaves to the Egyptians. It's better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness!"
이스라엘 사람들은 바로, 모세를 욕하고 저주하기 시작했다. 우리는 이집트 파라오의 노예일 때가 좋았다. 그 때 우리가 얘기하지 않았어? 우리 제발 그냥 놔두라고! 우리 노예로 살게 좀 내버려 두라고!
But Moses told the people, "Don't be afraid."
모세는 이 때 마음의 정곡, 진심을 찌른다. "두려워 하지 마."
"The LORD is fighting for them against Egyptians."
그들 앞에서 바다가 갈라지고, 이스라엘 사람들은 마른 땅이 된 바다를 건넌다. 때는 새벽이였고, 캄캄한 밤이였다. 하나님의 불 기둥이 바다가 마른 땅 위에 넘실 대며, 이스라엘 사람들에게 등대 역활을 해주고 있었다. 동시에, 이집트 군대가 이스라엘 사람들에게 감히 접근하지 못하도록 막고 계셨다. 하나님 혼자 이스라엘을 위해, 이집트를 대적하고 계셨다. 이집트로부터의 출애굽은 진정 그리하였다. 하나님의 단독적은 능력이였고, 모세와 아론이라는 선지자들을 사용하셨다.
So as the sun began to rise, Moses raised his hand over the sea, and the water rushed back into its usual place.
이제 새벽이 가고 해가 뜨기 시작하는 순간, 모세는 손을 반대편으로 뻗었다. 갈라져 있던 바다의 벽은 이집트 군대를 향해 쇄도했다.
When the Israelites saw the great power the LORD displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant.
이스라엘 사람들은 더디 믿고, 자발적 노예 근성이 본성인 사람들이였기에 이 엄청난 연속의 광경 앞에서야... 이제야 하나님을 진정으로 두려워하고, 신뢰하며, 모세를 믿고 따르게 되었다.
